CoF - Backgrounds

It has been a while since i updated any progress on the animated short.  There is more collaboration in this project than i had last year. Every member has his/her own project to develop, so CoF is not being developed fast, but satisfyingly steady.

In this post I will cover the paces i took to create one of my backgrounds. The same method was applied to all of the backgrounds i did, but how i made them will only be shown on a single background.

This was the initial sketch for background 17. It was used as a guide for the final background. The way i started was with a line work for the ground and the tree leaves. The following work was made in a layer under the linework.

The next thing i did was create the sky with a gradient tool and paint some clouds over with a watercolour brush tool over.

After the clouds, i used the same watercolour brush tool to add a background hill.

The same tool was used to add the midground, but the colour used is more intense as well as the opacity of the tool, to give the sense that this ground is closer.

The ground and the leaves are painted using 3 shades of green and then a smudge tool is used over them.

The watercolour tool is used to add shades of the forest and on the ground where the dragon would be lying.

Finally two already existing images of walls will be used as texture. Made Transparent and added over the background.

The same method was used on the rest of the backgrounds.

Next update will be on still & animated scenes.
